Definition of proprietor

1. An owner of a business or property.
2. One of the owners of an unincorporated business (a partner). If an unincorporated business has only one owner, he or she would be referred to as the sole proprietor.

  • landlord   One who rents or leases his or her property to another person or a business.
  • owner occupant   A borrower who resides in the property used as security for the loan.
  • small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs)   Limits banks place on businesses to determine there size.
